The Challenge:
Create a powerful, immersive audio experience for 7,000 attendees seated in the round in a temporary structure. Ensure clarity and impact from the opening keynote presentation through the closing night party featuring a Grammy award-winning pop headliner.
The Solutions:
Pre-Production Collaboration
For 6 months, Event Wave collaborated with key personnel in production design, lighting, LED, and rigging departments. We designed and refined a speaker system that would deliver high fidelity audio to every audience member, while staying out the sightlines of nine massive LED screens, and fitting within the weight limits of the temporary structure.
The speaker system design was modeled in Soundvision to accurately predict the performance at every seat in the house in three dimensions. Within the prediction environment, physical and electronic parameters were fine tuned to ensure consistent, high quality sound from the first row to the last row.
Speaker Choices
The entire sound system was comprised of L-Acoustics speakers, powered by LA12X amplified controllers with P1 processing. This ensured a unified and consistent sound throughout the venue. A ring of eight 6-box Kiva II arrays was flown above the rotating center stage, providing coverage from the first row through the middle of the seating area. From there, delay arrays of Kara II and Kiva II seamlessly continued the coverage. In the four farthest corners, truss-mounted X12 coaxial speakers filled in “audio shadows” from delay screens, ensuring all seats up to the very last row received clear, crisp sound.
Headliner Changeover
On the final day of the event, a morning keynote was followed by an evening party, featuring a Grammy award-winning pop headliner. The flown speaker system worked for both sessions, while the front fill package was quickly swapped from low-profile X8 coaxial fills to A15 Wide concert speakers with additional KS28 subwoofers. Our P1 processor seamlessly combined the production mixing console and headliner mixing console.
The result was a chest-thumping, high impact dance floor with even coverage throughout the party.
Unified Digital Communications
The impressive keynote opening sequence featured live dancers, a laser show, flying drones, and wirelessly controlled LED bracelets on all audience members. A highly capable and reliable communications system to unify the crew was critical. Clear-Com Arcadia was the obvious choice, providing advanced capabilities necessary for this event:
- Over 30 wireless beltpacks, including ICON wireless beltpacks for key personnel, seamlessly roaming through multiple zones
- Dante I/O multichannel digital interface to the camera broadcast truck intercom system
- Instant updates to accommodate user preferences
The Result:
"The client couldn’t stop raving about how seamless everything felt and how happy they were throughout the entire process.
We have nothing but great things to say about the Event Wave team."
